WOF cagers dump BBC

Arnold Laureño threw his weight around in the fourth period as World of Fun overwhelmed BBC, 82-75, Friday night to remain in the lead in the Class A duel in the 8 th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament in Bacolod City.

Laureño, the wily forward who was one of the catalysts in the beginning of West Negros College 's title streak in the local collegiate league, struck 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter as WOF improved to 3-0 for a share of the lead with Talisay.

Adding strength to the attack were ex-BBC man Bobot Divinagracia, who finished with 13 points, Robbie Jalando-on with 11 and Romeo Pactao-in with 10.

BBC launched a last-ditch attack to salvage the game with two minutes left as Joemarie Bayhon and Laurence Cornelio instigated a 10-0 blast that cut the lead, 77-69, before Arvin Gustilo nailed a triple to snuff out the rally.

WOF took the early lead, 20-8, and were ahead 63-44 in the fourth period with Divinagracia and Jalando-on taking turns in providing the points.

BBC dropped to 1-2, the same record as Province. Only the top two teams will gain automatic semis slots.

Meanwhile, Davies-Luis Paint dumped Foodman, 98-83, in Group 1 of the Class B division. Albert Smalley had 25 points, Kevin Relatos scored 15, Ireneo Morales 12 and Aaron Guevarra 11 to key Davies' win.

Foodman was led by Carl Edemne with 23, Santiago Rapiz with 18 and Ricky Chua and Mars Echarri with 10 apiece.

Playing tonight are KJ Fairmart-City Savings Bank and Rexona, which will play in the first game prior to the Rentas Knights-Panasonic match. *CPT
