MassKara Festival cancelled

The annual MassKara Festival, Bacolod City’s internationally renowned festival of smiling masks in October, has been cancelled.

The city was to celebrate the 41st MassKara Festival this year.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, in Executive Order No. 62, series of 2020 dated Sunday and released yesterday, ordered the suspension of the public celebration of the MassKara Festival and all other activities related to it in October to comply with health and safety protocols stemming from the spread of Covid-19. moremoremore

16 NegOcc quarantine facilities full

Amid the rising coronavirus cases in Negros Occidental, 16 quarantine facilities in the province have reached full capacity, while eight are now at critical level, Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, Covid-19 Provincial Incident Management Team commander, said yesterday.

He said that the quarantine facilities in Sagay, Calatrava, Isabela, and Talisay even went beyond their capacity.

A report furnished to the DAILY STAR showed that Sagay City’s quarantine facility has a capacity of 180 patients, but it has 190 occupants, Calatrava’s facility, with a capacity of 50 has 58 patients, Isabela with 30, but has 37 patients, and Talisay City with 95 but has 100 patients. moremoremore

NegOcc’s 20th Tourism Week starts

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Negros Occidental will kick off today the 20th Tourism Week celebration that will run until September 27.

Anchored on the theme “Tourism: Building Peace, Fostering Knowledge”, the Tourism Excellence Awards will start off the online festivities, which will be streamed live over the Negros Occidental Tourism Division’s Facebook page, followed by the “Halin sa Kusina” book launching.

A virtual tour guiding competition will be conducted tomorrow.
