Justice sought for fisherman
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

The father of a fisherman, who died after his banca was hit by what was believed to be a roll-on-roll-off vessel, in the waters of Sitio Pangahuyan 1, Barangay Washington in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Tuesday, is asking for justice on his son’s death.

Philippine Coast Guard-Escalante has already determined the sea vessel that rammed the boat of Je-Ar Caspe, 29, of Barangay Washington, but they could not divulge more details as investigation is ongoing.

Enrique Caspe, the father of Je-Ar, said yesterday they were on separate boats when they went fishing at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The elder Caspe said he saw that a RoRo from Tabuelan in Cebu rammed the boat of his son.

Although the elder Caspe could not identify the name of the sea vessel because it was too dark, he said it was in red color and heading towards the port in Sagay City, also in Negros Occidental.

The father said he searched for his son and found him already lifeless alongside the destroyed boat. He brought the body of his son to shore and asked for assistance from the Coast Guard.

PCG-Escalante personnel have recovered the boat of the victim. It was a total wreck.

Lt. Comm. Jansen Benjamin, PCG-Negros Occidental chief, said yesterday that a Maritime Casualty Investigation Team will arrive in the province, from Manila soon to probe the incident.

The victim had three children.*
