More WV cops test positive for Covid
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

More uniformed and non-uniformed personnel (NUP) of the Police Regional Office 6 have tested positive for Covid-19, regional police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Joem Malong, said yesterday.

Of the 51 PRO-6 personnel infected by the virus, Malong said one of them died, 29 have already recovered, while 20 others are active cases.

Twenty-four of the Covid-19 patients are assigned at the PRO 6 headquarters in Iloilo City, 11 at the Iloilo City Police Office, six at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, three each at the Bacolod City Police Office and Iloilo Police Provincial Office, three NUPs, and one at the Capiz Police Provincial Office.

A police sergeant assigned at the Talisay City Police Station in Negros Occidental was the latest PNP member added to the list of Covid patients in Western Visayas.

Maj. Jigger Gimeno, Talisay City police chief, said the policeman, assigned at the Talisay City public market, felt ill and did not report for duty.

A day after, 30 police personnel of the Talisay City Police Station were subjected to swab tests, including Gimeno, who voluntarily underwent a self-quarantine, although the policeman, who tested positive for the virus, had not made any contact with them.

Meanwhile, two troopers of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 and seven others identified to have close contact with him are still in Cebu for quarantine, while 42 of their colleagues returned to PRO 6 headquarters in Iloilo on Sept. 4 after more than two months of helping the Police Regional Office 7 in the enforcement of quarantine regulations in Cebu City, Malong said.

Malong also said that after completing their 14-day quarantine, they will be reassigned back to their respective units.*
