El Cid goes on isolation
as virus hits grandchild
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said yesterday that he and other members of his family are on self-isolation in different rooms of their house after one of his granddaughters tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) although she is asymptomatic.

Familiaran, who heads the city's inter-agency taskforce against COVID-19, posted on his Facebook page account that despite practicing precautionary measures and stringent observance of health protocols in his household, his 9-year-old granddaughter tested positive for COVID-19.

She is in isolation and is being closely monitored by infectious disease specialist Dr. Andy Panes, and her mother, Barangay Captain Tanya Familiaran.

"This message will serve to encourage the public to take extra vigilance and to observe all health protocols at home and in public places to protect our families and the city. Let us all unite together in prayer for God Almighty to protect, heal and restore our families to good health and to stop the spread of COVID-19," Familiaran said.

Meanwhile, former Bacolod councilor Caesar Distrito said his brother Singcang Barangay Captain Rosinie Distrito is still on a respirator in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital.

He also posted his brother's photo and swab test result on his Facebook page in response to speculations that the barangay captain and his wife are not really infected by the virus and are on vacation.

The former councilor said Rosinie's wife, Rho Anne Jade, has recovered and is just waiting to be released from the hospital. Caesar said he was told by his brother's doctors to pray hard because the next 72 hours from the time he was admitted was crucial.

“God really made miracles as my brother started to improve slowly but surely with the prayers of our mother, Councilor Simple Distrito, the barangay council and staff of Singcang Airport, his friends and classmates,” the former councilor said.*
