United City backs campaign vs. virus

Philippines Football League club United City, the club that replaced three-time champion Ceres-Negros FC, has expressed its full support to the Department of Health (DOH) in its campaign against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

"We at United City Football Club, including our staff and our players, have committed to support the BIDA Solusyonsa Covid-19 campaign of the Department of Health by implementing the four BIDA principles into our daily routines," Eric Gottschalk, the team's co-owner, said yesterday.

"We thank the DOH for allowing us to become the first professional sports team in the Philippines to join hands and to support BIDA. This is such an important initiative, and we as a club will do everything we can to support the cause, and we hope that this will encourage many more sports teams and athletes to support their campaign," he added.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is set to provide gymnastics sensation Carlos Yulo a major financial boost in his training for the Tokyo Olympics.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion-Norton yesterday said the PSC will hand out a huge sum of money to help fund Yulo's bid for Olympic glory.

"I received the board resolution. They're giving me P3 million," Norton said in the online Usapang Sports forum by the Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports. "They said that they're still preparing it. I wish we will get the money soon."
