BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

A 62-year-old female employee of the Bacolod City government succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Monday bringing the total number of city employees who died of the virus to six.

City Administrator Em Ang said yesterday that the female employee was assigned to the City Treasurer's Office but had been detailed to the old City Hall at Araneta Street.

She was cremated and buried yesterday, she said.

Ang added that the female employee, a resident of Barangay 9, Bacolod City, had been working from home since March when the lockdown started due to a pre-existing health condition.

City Health Officer Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli said they will conduct contact tracing to determine the people she had been in close contact with.

Among those who died last month from COVID- 19 was the 33-year-old male frontliner assigned to Councilor Israel Salanga, chairperson of the Action Team on Returning OFWs.

Other city employees who died of the virus was a 59-year-old market sweeper assigned to the Libertad Public Market, a male employee of the Public Order and Safety Office assigned to the Task Force Disiplina, and two employees assigned to the Land Tax Division at the Bacolod City Government Center.*CGS

The Department of Health - Center for Health Development 6 said the two deaths increased the region’s Covid-19 mortality rate to 78.

The fatalities were both elderly – the 105-year-old man died on August 26 while a 79-year-old woman from Bacolod City passed away on August 30.

“He was admitted (to) the Western Visayas Medical Center and has an underlying condition,” regional epidemiologist, Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe, said in a virtual presser.*PNA
