Negotiation is underway among the government agencies in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental for the transport of about 80 Badjaos back to Jolo, Sulu.
The Department of Social Services and Development together with the Interior and Local Government of Bacolod City, has started negotiating with the DILG of Negros Oriental for the transport of about 30 Badjao adults and 50 Badjao children back to Jolo, Sulu.
Pacita Tero, DSSD-Bacolod head, said yesterday that the negotiation is to ensure that the Badjaos will be immediately transported back to Jolo, Sulu via Negros Oriental.
From Bacolod, the Badjaos will be brought to Negros Oriental with the latter coordinating with the DILG of Jolo,Sulu for their return.
Tero said some of the Badjao's wanted to return to Victorias City but since they have no permanent homes there, it was decided to send them back home to Jolo.
Members of the Anti-Mendicancy Task Force have started to interview and provide food assistance to the Badjaos who are roaming at the Reclamation Area, she said.
Tero also said the Bacolod city government will provide for their transportation from Bacolod to Dumaguete, and the latter for their transportation from Dumaguete to Jolo, Sulu.*
