Probationer arrested

A probationer, who had escaped during a buy-bust operation in March this year, was arrested for allegedly carrying suspected shabu at a check-up point at Araneta Street in Purok Fiesta Homes, Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City, at about 6:15 a.m. yesterday.

P/Lt. Jonito Pastrana, Station 9 chief, said yesterday that Celso Alvarez, alias “Torisok”, 35, of Barangay Punta-Taytay in Bacolod, had been arrested for illegal drugs in 2017, but availed of the plea bargaining agreement and was released in 2019.

In March, the police conducted a buy-bust operation against Alvarez, but he escaped, and only his two companions were arrested, Pastrana said.

Yesterday, Alvarez, who was on a motorcycle, was approaching the check-up point when he was seen throwing away a coin purse by force multipliers and the police, Pastrana added.

He said that while Alvarez was being held, the police checked the coin purse and found two sachets of suspected shabu, weighing about 5.6 grams and with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P49,000.

Alvarez is now locked up at the custodial facility of Station 9, and drug charges are being prepared for filing against him.*
