5 slain rebels identified

The five New People’s Army rebels, who were killed in a recent encounter with government forces in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, were all identified and claimed by their families, Army regional spokesman, Maj. Cenon Pancito, said yesterday.

Three of the five slain rebels, who are residents of barangays Buenavista, Caradio-an and Carabalan in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, were identified by the Philippine Army as Rolando Gimeno, Romel Angeles and Joey Tabuyo, Pancito said.

He identified two other slain rebels from Brgy. Luyang, Mabinay and Brgy. Candabong, Manjuyod, all in Negros Oriental, as Isaias Rabilista and Raymond Cadayona.

Rabilista was the subject of an arrest warrant to be served by the combined forces of the Mabinay Police Station, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 and 11th Infantry Battalion, which triggered a gunbattle that left five suspected NPA rebels killed.*
