Tax deadline extended
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

An ordinance extending the deadline of payment of all local taxes, fees and charges imposed by Bacolod City for the succeeding quarters of the year 2020, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on third and final reading last week.

The ordinance was authored by Councilor Al Victor Espino in view of “the severe disruption of economic activities brought about by COVID-19, and to promote and protect the collective interests of all Filipinos in these challenging times”.

It is imperative to, among other things, move the statutory deadlines and timelines for the filing and submission of any document, the payment of taxes, fees and other charges required by law, and the grant of any benefit, in order to ease the burden on individuals under community quarantine, collected and imposed by Bacolod City, it said.

The deadline for the succeeding quarterly payments of business taxes and fees are as follows: second quarter, April 20; third quarter, July 20; and fourth quarter, October 20, the ordinance said.

Meanwhile, the ordinance extends the deadline for the payment of all local taxes, fees, and charges duly authorized and imposed by the City of Bacolod as follows: second quarter will be due on June 25, third quarter, August 20 and fourth quarter, November 20.

As a result of the moving of deadlines of payment within which to pay local taxes, fees, and charges, no interest, surcharges of any form of penalty will be applied on any local tax, fee, or charge accruing on or due and demandable during the second quarter period provided in Section 1 of the ordinance.

The ordinance said all local tax delinquencies prior to the effectivity of R.A. 11469 will remain, and will be due and demandable following the expiration of the deadline set in the second quarter period of Section 1. The applicable interests, penalties and surcharges will begin to run again and will be due and demandable after the lapse of the effectivity of R.A. No. 11469.*
