‘Reverse move on poultry import’
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has asked Agriculture Secretary William Dar to reverse the move of the Bureau of Animal Industry to import poultry, saying it will have a negative impact on the local raisers.

The governor said he is one with the poultry raisers in opposing the move, as he suggested that instead of promoting importation, “we should support local and buy local.”

He said the province has over 1,000 metric tons of surplus chicken annually.

Farmers in Negros Occidental can now sell their produce at the Petron gas station at B.S. Aquino Drive in Bacolod City every weekend.

The third “Negrense: Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” market of the provincial government and the Department of Agriculture in the city opened Saturday.

Remelyn Recoter, DA Region 6 director, said the site in Bacolod is the first in Western Visayas and outside Metro Manila.
