Church needs help
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

Help is needed to finish the construction of the Mary Help of Christians Church in Barangay 19-A Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Victorias City residents, particularly the Vicmicans, or the Victorias Milling Co. community, have been rebuilding the church through bayanihan efforts.

The cathedral-sized worship house is considered one of the most well-known churches in Negros Occidental. Built in 1995, it sits on a two-hectare property donated by the Victorias Milling Co., and located at Canetown Subdivision in Barangay 19-A.

The church was left unfinished because of the sugar crisis and changes in management in 1997.

“Little by little, in the best way we can, we are slowly rebuilding. The world’s famous Angry Christ Chapel is not accessible anymore to all parishioners due to strict entry protocol into the factory area because of COVID-19 pandemic,” Fr. Aguedo Palomo, parish priest of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, said.

Daily masses are being held in the unfinished 25-year-old church.

The parishioners are helping out by donating one to two or more cement bags.

Fr. Palomo said he believes that despite the present crisis, things will work out as planned.

“We know that business is not good at the moment, but God’s loving kindness will always flourish anytime,” he said.

Those who wish to donate may contact Marlon Prado, who is a lay minister, at (0949) 741 6694, or Fr. Palomo at (0909) 022 3410.*
