Sugarcane, rice inter-cropping
practice in Negros Occ. lauded
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

The chair of the Mindanao Development Authority lauded Negros Occidental’s practice on inter-cropping of sugarcane and rice to maximize the utilization of sugarcane areas and to mitigate the impact of rice deficit in the province.

Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol, also former secretary of the Department of Agriculture, said he learned about the experiment of the provincial government, the Sugar Regulatory Administration, and Philippine Rice Research Institute on the inter-cropping of sugarcane and rice during his recent trip to the province to check on a project in Murcia town.

The model farms are at the SRA research area in La Granja, La Carlota, a block farm in Aranda, Hinigaran, a private farm in Sagasa, Bago City, and another block farm in Talisay City, Piñol said in a Facebook post.
