Mass testing covers
4,384 Bacolodnons

There were 4,384 Bacolodnons tested for COVID-19 in the mass testing drive held in Bacolod City from Friday to Saturday.

“This is a good number, we are happy with the results,” Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.

Leonardia thanked Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Consultant Alfredo Albee Benitez for initiating the mass testing program, as well as all the Bacolodnons who cooperated in the drive.

“We saw again a scenario in Bacolod where hardly was there any car, or people moving around the city. That is again a show of cooperation and unity that we need in this situation where we are still battling COVID-19,” he said.

“We have shown once again to one and all that in Bacolod City we can come together for a noble purpose. In fact for a very important intension to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” he added.

The mayor also thanked the swabbers from the city and the province during the COVID-19 mass testing, the barangay captains, kagawads, tanods, police and traffic enforcers, BHERTs members, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, Councilor Renecito Novero, City Administrator Em Ang, city councilors and other officials, Board Member Ryan Gamboa, Drs. Carmela Gensoli and Grace Tan, and all the people of Bacolod for observing the “no movement” policy.

Meanwhile, Leonardia signed Executive Order 56 ending the four-day “no movement” period in Bacolod City Saturday instead of today. He said he cut short the four-day no movement period since the COVID-19 mass testing had reached a sufficient number of participants from those considered as vulnerable targets.

However, the Sunday closure of the three major Bacolod public markets remained in force yesterday, he said.*
