Neg. Occ. ranks 3rd nationwide


The Department of Health ranked Negros Occidental yesterday as the third top area in the country with the most number of new COVID-19 cases.

In first place was the National Capital Region and in second was Laguna, it said.

On Tuesday, Negros Occidental was in second place.

The nationwide ranking was based on the number of new COVID-19 cases from August 13 to yesterday with NCR having 3,157, Laguna – 403, and Negros Occidental - 304.

There were 5,277 new COVID-19 positive cases nationwide yesterday, with 87 in Western Visayas.

Bacolod City had 45 new COVID-19 cases yesterday and 133 recoveries, the DOH reported.

Negros Occidental had 26 new COVID-19 positive cases with one recovery, it added.

The DOH said that, as of yesterday, Negros Occidental had 1,019 COVID-19 positive cases and 8 deaths and Bacolod City had 810 cases and 17 deaths.

Charina Magallanes-Tan, Negros Occidental COVID-19 Incident Command Center spokesperson, said, that as of Tuesday, the 990 COVID cases in Negros Occidental were in Bago City – 87, Silay City – 74, Sagay City – 62, Talisay City – 61, La Carlota City – 56, Cadiz City – 52, Himamaylan City – 50, Kabankalan City – 44, Murcia – 36, Calatrava – 34, EB Magalona, San Carlos City and Victorias City – 32 each, Hinigaran – 31, Binalbagan – 30;

Escalante City – 27, Cauayan and Sipalay City – 26 each, Manapla – 25, La Castellana – 21, Hinoba-an and Pulupandan – 20 each, San Enrique – 19, Moises Padilla and Valladolid – 18 each, Toboso – 15, Isabela and Pontevedra – 12 each, Ilog – 9, Candoni – 5, and Salvador Benedicto – 4.

Of the total number of COVID-19 cases, 471 were locally stranded individuals, 316 – domestic, 156 – overseas Filipino workers, 28 - frontliners, Authorized Persons Outside Residence – 15, in other province but tagged as from Negros Occidental – 2, and pending classification – 2, she said.

Negros Occidental, as of Tuesday, had 560 active cases, 422 recoveries, and eight deaths, she added.*
