SRA vows more efficient SIDA programs

Sugar Regulatory Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica said he “will keep pushing for faster and more efficient implementation of Sugarcane Industry Development Act (SIDA) programs”.

The assurance was made in a hearing of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, held through Zoom, yesterday, a press release from SRA said.

Issues on the implementation of the SIDA programs, which have resulted in the slow utilization of funds, and possible amendments to the SIDA law to strengthen the sugarcane industry, were discussed at the hearing.

Tesda launches livelihood program

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) launched the Sustainable and Resilient Livelihood Program for the Kapatiran group in Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Tuesday.

Tesda personnel were joined by Kabankalan City officials, barangay officials of Locotan, Central Philippine State University, Department of Trade and Industry, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Philippine National Police.

Beverly Insular, Tesda acting provincial director, said the program is part of the efforts of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster under Executive Order 70, to free the people from poverty through collective efforts.
