The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod today appealed to the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) and the Bacolod City IATF that barangay officials, Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTS), and other barangay frontliners be given hazard pay or any other financial remuneration, especially if they acquire COVID-19.
The resolution authored by Councilor Lady Gles Gonzales-Pallen cited the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and local transmissions in the city that compelled barangay officials, barangay personnel, and BHERTS to serve as primary frontliners. She said some of them have been infected by the virus in the line of duty.
The entitlement to hazard pay or any financial remuneration should be given to them for their unwavering service rendered during this pandemic, Gonzalez-Pallen said.
The resolution cited the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act or the Bayanihan Act (RA No. 11469) which calls for local government units to render full assistance and cooperation and to mobilize necessary resources to undertake critical, urgent, appropriate response and measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.*
