Confed urges planter-members
to prepare for migrant workers

The Confederation of Sugar Producers Negros-Panay Chapter is urging planter-members to hasten the processing of documentary permits for sugar migrant workers in light of the recent memorandum from Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao.

Nicolas Ledesma Jr., Confed Negros-Panay chairman, said with barely two weeks to go, “we need to speed things up so the migrant workers will be in Negros Occidental at the start of the milling season.”

Cadiao, in Memorandum Order No. 68, states the additional requirements for transporting migrant workers to the province, on top of what Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson had issued.

2 NegOcc LGUs to receive P1.3M aid

The Technical Secretariat of the Regional Development Council in Western Visayas recently identified eight local government units in the region that will receive P1.3 million in assistance in their fight against the coronavirus disease.

The localities are the cities of Sagay and Himamaylan in Negros Occidental, Kalibo in Aklan, Alimodian and Lambunao in Iloilo, Pandan in Antique, Tapaz in Capiz, and Jordan in Guimaras.

Ro-Ann Bacal, director of the National Economic and Development Authority in Region 6, said the LGUs were identified as recipients of its regional share under Energy Regulation 1-94 of the DOE, which rationalizes the utilization of this fund to respond to the Covid-19 public health emergency.
