Ceneco Silay transformer to be energized

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. is still waiting for the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to approve its documentary requirements to energize the newly-installed 10 mega-volt-ampere (MVA) power transformer at its Lopez substation in Silay City.

Maria Agnes Claro, officer-in-charge of the Office of the General Manager, in a statement, said the power utility firm has to replace the busted 5MVA power transformer, which tripped off due to exposure to a variety of electrical, mechanical and thermal stresses.

This is to address the power reliability and loading capacity issues at Silay City, which caused several power interruptions since August 2, she added.

Talisay City and portions of Bacolod City have also experienced power interruptions for the period.

Claro also said that NGCP has informed Ceneco that the new power circuit breaker for the capacitor of the Talisay substation is now ready for installation.

The NGCP power circuit breaker has been damaged since February this year and caused under voltage in some areas of Talisay and Silay, she said.

She added that the delay in the replacement was due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She assured the member-consumers that Ceneco is constantly coordinating with NGCP for the immediate energization of the 10MVA power transformer and the replacement of the power circuit breaker to resolve the power and loading capacity problems in Silay City.

Meanwhile, Ceneco yesterday announced a 10-hour power interruption, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., that will affect several parts of Bacolod City today.

The power utility firm will conduct maintenance activities to ensure the reliability of distribution lines to avoid further serious damages that will result in major interruptions, it said in the advisory.

Affected areas will be the MF1, MF2, and MF3 feeders, while the MF4 and MF5 feeders will experience the outage at 7 to 9 a.m., and 4 to 5 p.m.*
