Sibling cops positive for coronavirus
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

Two brothers who are both police officers of the Bacolod City Police Office tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019, P/Col. Henry Biñas, BCPO director, said yesterday.

The two cops, a female and a male, are assigned at the Administration Section of the BCPO headquarters at Magsaysay Avenue, and at Station 9 in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod.

The female officer, assigned at the Administration Section that is currently on lockdown, has been under quarantine since Friday following the release of the swab test result of an augmentation cop from Police Regional Office-6, who had tested positive for the virus.

The augmentation cop, who was previously assigned in Barangay Banago, Bacolod, went to the Administration Section and asked Biñas for permission if he can go home to Anilao, Iloilo, to prepare for his wedding, Monday last week.

He is now under isolation in a quarantine facility in Anilao.

Meanwhile, the brother of the policewoman is also on quarantine. He had been on sick leave after he injured his leg when he blocked the door as a detainee attempted to escape.

He did a half-day duty at Station 9 on July 30, and again went on sick leave the next day and had his check-up, Biñas said.

He said the sibling cops were swabbed on August 10 and the results came out Wednesday.

The policewoman had sore throat while her brother had a fever.

“They are symptomatic but their symptoms are mild and they are on their way to recovery,” Biñas said.

Since it had been two weeks since the policeman went to Station 9, Biñas said he ordered the station disinfected but did not lock it down.

Station 9 personnel, who are being monitored by the Philippine National Police’s Health Service, have not manifested any symptoms, so far, Biñas said.

As of yesterday, only two out of 658 organic personnel of BCPO have been hit by the virus.*
