1 death, 72 new Covid
cases in Bacolod, NegOcc

The Department of Health Region 6 reported yesterday 54 new Covid-19 cases in Negros Occidental and 18 in Bacolod City, with one death in Bago City.

The Covid-19 fatality was a 38-year-old male resident of Bago City, Negros Occidental, the DOH reported.

Bago City Mayor Nicholas Torres said last night that he has yet to receive an official report. But if the information is verified, Yulo said the cadaver of the Covid-19 fatality should be cremated.

The 72 new cases in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, form part of the 129 new cases in Western Visayas, as of yesterday.

The DOH report shows eight new cases in Bago City, Kabankalan City – 6, five each in the cities of Sagay and Talisay, Cadiz City – 4, three each in the cities of La Carlota, Victorias, Sipalay, and San Carlos, and the town of Cauayan, two in EB Magalona and one each in La Castellana, Binalbagan, Pulupandan, Himamaylan City, Hinobaan, Murcia, Manapla, Silay City, Hinigaran, Candoni and Ilog.

All of them are now in quarantine facilities, the DOH report added.

With the escalating cases of local transmission in Bacolod City and in the province, Mayor Alfredo Marañon III of Sagay City yesterday ordered a checkpoint and strict implementation of mandatory quarantine protocols.

Of the 36 confirmed positive cases in Sagay City, 32 are Locally Stranded Individuals from Manila, Luzon and Cebu, three overseas Filipino workers with travel history from abroad, and one domestic case with travel history from Bacolod City, the Sagay City government said in its advisory.

The advisory added that close contacts of a domestic case have tested negative while all confirmed cases are asymptomatic.*
