others in Negros, Bacolod
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

There were 123 new COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental during the weekend.

Bacolod City was the topnotcher in Western Visayas with 89 new COVID-19 cases, two of whom were babies of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the Department of Health reported.

The DOH report also said 61 of those who tested positive in Bacolod City were OFWs, eight were locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and 20 were domestic cases.

Negros Occidental had 45 COVID-19 cases, 44 of whom were LSIs and a domestic case, during the weekend.

Two LSIs were a 1-year-old male from Kabankalan City and a 1-year-old female from Hinoba-an.

Dr. Grace Tan, Bacolod Inter-Agency Task Force Against COVID-19 spokesperson, said two of the COVID-19 positive cases were a 3-month-old boy and a 1-month-old girl who are children of returning OFWs.

The babies are asymptomatic and their parents tested negative for the virus.

Tan said of the 20 domestic cases, two are COVID-19 frontliners and the rest are close contacts of virus-positive patients.

Bacolod City now has 268 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 64 having recovered, 197 active and 7 dead.

In Negros Occidental the new COVID-19 cases are in Kabankalan City with six, Cauayan – four, Manapla, Himamaylan, Toboso, Silay City and Murcia – three each; Escalante City, La Carlota City, Sagay City, La Castellana, Hinoba-an and Binalbagan – two each, and La Carlota, Hinigaran, Valladolid, Talisay City, Victorias City, Sipalay City, Cadiz City and Moises Padilla – with one each.

The DOH also reported that among the COVID-19 patients who have recovered, Victorias City has three, and Cauayan, Sagay City, Hinobaan, Talisay City, and Bacolod City – one each.*
