Some Australian volunteers were in Negros Occidental recently for their promotional campaign to urge their countrymen to do more volunteer work in the country, Cristine Mansinares, Negros Occidental provincial supervising tourism operations officer, said yesterday.
She said the team from the Australian Volunteers International in Melbourne, Australia has chosen Negros Occidental as a destination for their promotional video seeking to encourage more skilled Australians to volunteer in the Philippines.
Included in the filming locations in the province are the Peñalosa Farms and Victorias Milling Compound in Victorias City, Hacienda Santa Rosalia in Manapla, Punta Bulata and Danjugan Island in Cauayan, the heritage district of Silay City, and Mambukal Resort in Murcia.
On why they are promoting the Philippines to Australia, Mansinares said the program matches a broad range of skilled Australians with partner organizations including the country “to support us in achieving our own development goals.”
The team, composed of Jane Macdonald, Cam Suttie, and Myles Liquigan, covers the work and life of Leela Galvez, a sustainable tourism volunteer under the Australian Volunteers Program, assigned to assist the Negros Occidental Tourism Division for the sustainable tourism program of the province.
Currently, three local government units in Negros Occidental - Victorias City, Calatrava, and San Enrique - are getting a boost in tourism development from the Australian government as they are working with Galvez on sustainable tourism.*
