Reforms in the sugar industry being asked from them by the Philippine economic managers, who are pushing for the sugar import liberalization, are expected to be formulated during the industry summit February next year.
Raymund Montinola, spokesperson of the national Confederation of Sugar Producers, said they have started discussing possible scenarios and policies on how to counter the liberalization being pushed by the economic managers.
Rice confab seeks to address woes

The first National Rice Industry Stakeholders’ Conference in Iloilo City is seeking to address the concerns in the industry, Negros Occidental Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said yesterday.
The conference, on the theme “Empowering Rice Farmers Organizations Anchored on Value Chain Systems”, was initiated by the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries.
The two-day activity that concluded yesterday was attended by more than 750 industry stakeholders from the country.
