P1.6B sought for airports


The Regional Development Council has endorsed the request for the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Department of Transportation to allocate P1.64 billion for six airports in Western Visayas, two of which are in Negros Occidental.

The projects are necessary for the efficient operation of the airports, enhancement of existing security measures and compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards, the RDC resolution approved at a meeting in Bacolod City Thursday, said.

Of the total amount P238,495,000 is sought for the Bacolod-Silay Airport passenger terminal expansion and runway extension, and P50,000 for the concreting of the Kabankalan Airport in Negros Occidental.

For Panay, funds are being sought for the upgrading of the Kalibo International Airport – P194.3 million, Iloilo International Airport – P864 million, Evelio B. Javier (Antique) Airport – P14 million and Roxas (Capiz) Airport – P332 million.

The six airports are identified for CY 2019 implementation under the CAAP and DOTr Airport Development Plan, the RDC resolution said.*CPG
