AFP to redeploy troops

The commander of the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has announced that troops will soon be deployed to Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, following the July 21 ambush in the area that left six policemen and a civilian dead.

CentCom commander, Maj. Gen. Oscar Lactao, said the redeployment of troops to the area will be considered soon, likely after the normalization of the situation in Marawi City. The 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Guihulngan City was pulled out months back due to the conflict in Mindanao.

Lactao described the recent Guihulngan ambush as a retaliatory attack by the New People's Army terrorists because of their losses in an encounter with government troops in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental earlier.

PNP to help secure
city Hall of Justice

The Philippine National Police will deploy police personnel to the Hall of Justice in Dumaguete City, following the pull out of eight security guards after their agency's contract expired yesterday.

Senior Supt. Henry Biñas, acting provincial police director, said that Negros Oriental Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr. has requested for the assignment of police personnel to the Hall of Justice starting today.

He said he promised to send policemen to man the entry and exit points of the Hall of Justice while the problem on security guards is being addressed. .

Police directors given
15 days to stop illegal gambling

Philippine National Police chief Ronald Dela Rosa yesterday imposed an ultimatum to police regional directors to eliminate illegal gambling in their areas within 15 days.

In a press briefing in Camp Crame, he warned police regional and provincial directors who will fail to meet the deadline that they can be removed from service.

He also authorized provincial directors to remove chiefs of police who do not take appropriate action against illegal gambling.
