Lakbayan Bacolod to hold rally

About 2,500 are expected to join the Negros Occidental leg of the Lakbayan for Peace and Change culminating rally at the Bacolod City Public Plaza today.

The three-day march, that started on Saturday, is led by BAYAN-Negros in anticipation of the first State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Christian Tuayon, secretary-general, said the nationally-coordinated march and rally was in support of the Duterte administration and to raise awareness among Negrenses of the importance of the resumption of the Peace Process between the Philippine Government and the National Democratic Front.

At 2 p.m., Tuayon said, the south contingent that started in Valladolid will start marching to the public plaza from Rizal Elementary School, while the north contingent from EB Magalona will take off from the Neg. Occ. Capitol lagoon.

Both contingents marched from Valladolid and EB Magalona, and camped at the Brgy. Sum-ag gym in Bacolod and Brgy. Ara-an gym in Talisay, he said.

BAYAN Negros Sectoral leaders will also attend the SONA, and those in the grand rally will also air current issues including the land dispute in Hacienda Ilimnan in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia where the Negros First Ranch is located.

The rally will also express the challenge of the group to the Duterte administration to address issues such as the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, a supplemental accord to the previous Visiting Forces Agreement, continuing militarization and human rights violations, labor problems of contractualization and low minimum wage and the implementation of K-12 Program, Tuayon also said.*KBC
