Dengue cases up 184%

Dengue cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to July 9 this year are 184 percent higher than the previous year, a Provincial Health Office report showed yesterday.

Dengue cases were 165 percent higher than last year in last week's PHO report covering January 1 to July 2 with 1,206 cases, the report furnished the DAILY STAR by Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said.

The dengue cases from January 1 to July 9 rose with 1,394 cases or an increase of 904 cases compared to the same period in 2015 with 490 cases.

The deaths from dengue remained at four, with one each in San Carlos, La Carlota and Talisay cities, and Hinobaan town, while there was none in the same period last year.

Areas hit by dengue cases were Silay City with 164, Bago City 122, Kabankalan City 109, Himamaylan City 107, San Carlos City 101, Cauayan 80, Talisay City 59, La Carlota City 58, Victorias City 53;

Sagay City 50, Isabela 46, Hinoba-an 42, Binalbagan 37, Hinigaran 37, Ilog 36, Pontevedra 31, Calatrava 26, San Enrique 25, EB Magalona 21, Cadiz City 20, Valladolid 20;

Manapla 18, Escalante City 17, Murcia 17, La Castellana 13, Moises Padilla 13, Candoni 11, Salvador Benedicto 11, Toboso 5 and Pulupandan 3.*CPG
