Negros elementary booters
face NM in q'finals today

The Negros Island Region elementary boys' football team had advanced to the Palarong Pambansa quarterfinals in Albay today.

The NIR boys settled for a scoreless draw with defending champion National Capital Region in their final elimination round match yesterday afternoon.

NIR topped Group A with 2-1 win-draw card and will face Northern Mindanao, the No. 2 team -- with two wins and one loss -- in Group D, where host Bicol has a clean 3-0 slate for a quarterfinal date with NCR.

Western Visayas, with three wins and a loss in Group B, will most likely

face Soccksargen, the leader in Group C with a Davao-Zamboanga encounter looming in the other Round of Eight match.

NIR routed Ilocos, 6-0 and edged Eastern Visayas, 2-1, in its first two qualifying matches.

Our boys will have to play aggressively to make it to the semifinals, assistant coach Noriel Revilla, told DAILY STAR, adding, our players are capable of doing it.

The NIR XI is spearheaded by the NOPSSCEA Selection from Trinity

Christian School, St. La Salle - Integrated School, STI-WestNegros University and Don Bosco Technical Institute with reinforcements from San Carlos, Kabankalan and Bayawn cities.

The members of the team are Kyle William Quindo, Miguel Adolf Almedilla, Joseph Kent Benipayo, Ralph Louis Castro, Van Vincent Celdran, Sacheje Gador, Joshua John Limco, Kai Limocon, Rogie Madalag, Francis Jude Madamecila, Hafstein Madrazo, John Renmart Marcellana, Ross Matthew Negrido, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, and Ram Emmanuel Treyes. Head coach is Carlo Torbela.* AVDelCarmen
