Diaz resignation
answered prayer

The resignation of City Legal Officer Rayfrando Diaz II is an answered prayer, Bacolod Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez said yesterday.

“It is a confirmation that as a Knight of God and a warrior against graft and corruption, my efforts and struggles have borne fruit as we are now slowly but surely winning the fight,” he said.

Lopez said Diaz could no longer take the pressure from defending the indefensible. The case for damages Diaz filed against him and the Ombudsman will surely be dismissed, including the perjury case against his counsel, Belinda Villa, and himself, as all these were acts of desperation, Lopez said.

The various cases he filed against Diaz and Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, plus the notice of disallowance with the National Electrification Administration and the Bureau of Internal Revenue investigation have definitely contributed to his resignation, Lopez claimed.

Diaz could not be reached for his comment as of press time last night.

“His (Puentevella's) alleged statement of haunting me to the death, is mere rhetoric especially since it was coming from a person whose credibility is questionable and highly stressed, that is, if we are to believe the medical certificate he submitted to the Sandiganbayan,” he said.

“I do not put weight on utterances coming from an individual who cannot face me man to man,” but uses his cohorts from the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office and General Services Office, to promote falsehood and fabricated statements to enable him to come up with trumped up charges with the Ombudsman,” he said.

Diaz, earlier, said his plan to relinquish his post as CLO had been agreed between himself and Puentevella, who will announce his replacement today.*CGS
