Thief using child
caught on CCTV

The act of a man, who used a minor girl to steal the bag of a bookkeeper of Hinigaran town in Negros Occidental, containing P35,000 in cash, was captured by a closed-circuit television camera at a fast-food restaurant in Bacolod City, Saturday.

The CCTV footage showed that while bookkeeper, Russel Cabatac, and her daughter were eating, the man using the minor as his cover stole her bag. He then concealed the bag in between his body and that of the child as he carried her out of the restaurant, the CCTV footage showed.

Senior Supt. Melchor Coronel, Bacolod Police officer-in-charge, said yesterday that the man may face charges for using the child to do an illegal act in violation of Republic act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Cabatac said she was going to use the P35,000 in cash that was stolen from her to pay for her credit card bills. Aside from cash, the bag also contained a cellular phone, two identification cards and documents, she said.*SGG
