The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) on Tuesday created a health and safety committee amid the country’s fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The creation of the new committee, which will be activated by May 22, was one of the resolutions made in an online meeting by the PSC board.
PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez created the new committee in accordance with the occupational and health safety standards for public sector jointly issue by the Civil Service, Commission Department of Health and the Department of Labor and Employment.
Executive Director Merly Ibay will serve as the head of the health and safety committee with Deputy Executive Directors Dennis Rivera and Guillermo Iroy and Marc Velasco named as deputies.
During the online meeting, the PSC also discussed the procurement of personal protective equipment, face masks, and disinfection supplies in anticipation of the gradual transition of Metro Manila from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to the modified ECQ and hopefully to general community quarantine (GCQ).
Meanwhile, the PSC assured that it will still provide allowances to the national athletes and coaches despite their trainings called off indefinitely due to Covid-19.*PNA
