Art Wide Open
with Jade Snow
Oftentimes, it’s the direness of circumstances that shows the heart of a community.
In the face of an unexpected pandemic, the artists’ community was among
the first to take care of its own and offer creative aid to the
frontliners, who are trying to keep a lid on a major tragedy. This is
what the Negrense Artists Bayanihan Project is all about.
They distributed grocery packs to the art district community and
artists to ensure that they can keep to the intention of the community
quarantine and keep safe. They also distributed 210 face shields with
200 more coming, 15 boxes of bottled water, and 103 burgers to
frontliners in checkpoint areas, as well as to doctors, nurses, and
volunteers in hospitals.
The effort was made
possible through the generosity of Charlie and Ann Co, Toto Tarrosa,
Georgina Jocson, and Bong Lopue, along with the artist team of RA
Tijing, Barry Cervantes, Rolf and Kath Baynosa, Ryn Paul Gonzales,
Dennis Valenciano, JM Valenciano, Ayla August, Billy Boy Abonado Jr.,
John Carlo Rubica, HR Campos III, Carmel Hibaler, Manny and Jun
Montelibano, among others.*
