A 62-year-old Negros Oriental resident who had travelled to Greenhills in San Juan City and is currently confined at a private hospital in Dumaguete City in serious condition tested positive for the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), Negros Oriental spokesman Bimbo Miraflor confirmed last night.

He said the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine confirmed that the man, who comes from a town in Negros Oriental and had travelled back to the province via Philippine Airlines on March 1 and was admitted into a private hospital on March 9, was Covid positive.

He has severe pneumonia, is incubated, and is on a ventilator at the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital, Miraflor said. moremoremore

Two Negros festivals cancelled

Amid threats of the Covid-19, two Negros Occidental festivals have been cancelled by their local government officials yesterday.

Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, in line with Resolution No. 20-85 approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Victorias City, ordered the indefinite postponement of its 22nd Kadalag-an Festival.

This is in response to the emerging public health threat, coronavirus disease-19, and in compliance with Proclamation No. 922, which capacitates the local government units to undertake necessary measures to prevent the spread of the dreaded virus. moremoremore

4th NegOcc swine AI center opens

The provincial government of Negros Occidental opened the P1.05-million Swine Artificial Insemination (AI) and Laboratory Center in E.B. Magalona yesterday.

Gov ernor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the inauguration of the c enter in Barangay Gahit , with other provincial and local officials present.

Lacson said the facility is expected to improve livestock quality and increase the productivity of swine raisers in the Third District , adding that it will produce genetically improved livestock with its quality breeding materials.
