President Rodrigo Duterte, senators and Cabinet members are expected to attend the 86th birthday celebration of Olivia V. Yanson, matriarch of the Yanson family who own the biggest bus company in the country, at L’ Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City tonight.

Yanson, at a pre-birthday celebration yesterday at her beach house in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, said the president has confirmed that he is attending her birthday.

Rebel ‘killed’, 3 gov’t men injured

A suspected New People’s Army amazon reportedly died, while two Army soldiers and a government militiaman were injured in an encounter on Tuesday in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

Capt. Cenon Pancito, 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief, yesterday said that soldiers of the 15th Infantry Battalion were on combat patrol, when they encountered about 15 NPA rebels led by a certain Reniel Cellon, alias Kumpol, and Nilda Bertulano, alias Gia, in Sitio Pamay-an, Brgy Camalandaan, Cauayan.

SEC Bacolod to visit lending,
financing companies: exec

The Securities and Exchange Commission will conduct ocular visit s to lending and financing companies in Negros Island to ensure that they are compliant with the lending laws, its Bacolod extension office head, Annabelle Corral-Respall , said yesterday.

“W hen their company is visited by the SEC , it should not be interpreted that we are find ing fault with them . We only want to check whether they have been compliant or not with our lending laws,” she said.

She added they want to see if companies are transparent in their operations.
