Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Cynthia Villar, and Finance Assistant Secretary Antonio Lambino will be in Negros Occidental today to assess the state of the sugar industry and dialog with stakeholders.

Zubiri and Villar have taken up the cudgels for sugar industry stakeholders opposed to the liberalized importation of sugar, proposed by the country’s economic managers.

The senators and the DOF official will proceed to the office of the Associacion de Agricultores de La Carlota y Pontevedra Inc. in La Carlota Citythis morning. moremoremore


4-year-old drowns in EB Magalona

The search for a missing 4-year-old boy ended yesterday when his lifeless body was recovered at the Malogo River in Brgy. Nanca, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

The body of Jestoni Cabrillos, 4, was found floating in the Malogo River by members of the EB Magalona Rescue Team and personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard, town police chief Capt. Wilfredo Benoman said.

EB Magalona police investigation showed that the victim and his parents were bathing in the river at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, when he was carried away by a strong current. moremoremore

IN LA CASTELLANA
DAR distributes CLOAs

The Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Occidental 2 distributed 18 Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) to beneficiaries from La Castellana on Wednesday.

The 18 agrarian r eform beneficiaries are now owners of the 8.7692–hectare land in Barangay Cabagna-an that was previously owned by Felix Feria Jr.

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Normando Cresino reminded the beneficiaries not to engage in any illegal activities, adding that CLOAs should not be sold, transferred or conveyed except through hereditary succession, or to the government.
