Chicken prices in Negros rising
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA
Prices of chicken have shot up in local markets since the start of the year due to the increase in its demand, Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said yesterday.
Decena said the demand for chicken surged because of the scare brought by the African swine fever outbreak in Luzon and the scarcity of fish due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season.Right now, the prices of chicken in the market are pegged at P155 to P170 per kilo, he said. “Before Christmas, the price was P135 per kilo, and P140 to P150 during the Christmas season,” he added.
