A firefighter, who was wounded in a Christmas party stabbing incident with his fellow fire officer in Bacolod City, Monday last week, died on his birthday, yesterday.
Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva, chief arson investigator of the Bacolod Bureau of Fire Protection and supervisor of the Libertad Sub-FireStation, did not make it to celebrate his 55th birthday. He was declared dead yesterday by the attending physician at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital.
Silva sustained a stab wound on his stomach when Fire Officer 3 Isaac Cabana stabbed him with a fan knife outside their fire station in Purok Fire, Barangay 8 in Bacolod City, at about 2 a.m. on December 23, 2019.
Cabana, who was also stabbed by Silva after grabbing the fan knife from him, succumbed to a stab wound on his neck and was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon LocsinMontelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Cabana and Silva were the last ones left drinkingduring the Christmas party of the Bacolod BFP, the police said.
Police Maj. Sherlock Gabana, Station 2 chief, said both Cabana and Silva were found on the ground, bathed in their blood, and hugging each other.
There will be a viewing of Silva’s remains at the Lopez Jaena Fire Substation until Sunday before he will be transferred to the St. Peter Funeral Homes in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod, Chief Insp. PublioPloteña, Bacolod fire marshal, said yesterday.*
