The House Committee on Economic Affairs approved on first reading a bill establishing the Bacolod Economic Zone Authority, authored by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya.

Gasataya said the purpose of the BEZA is to identify areas in Bacolod City that may be converted into economic zones or special economic zones, either for manufacturing, information technology, or entertainment, and also for the establishment of a free port for the city.

The intention of the bill is to provide additional jobs. If this is approved in the Senate and signed by the President, this will generate thousands of jobs because foreign companies will start investing in Bacolod as it has vast areas of land that can be converted into economic zones, the solon said. moremoremore

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), through the Office of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, to strictly implement City Ordinance 593, series of 2012, or “an ordinance regulating the use of earphones while driving and/or crossing the street”.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito, said the ordinance considers the use of earphones while driving as a form of distracted driving.

It has been observed that a lot of motorists plying the streets of the city are using earphones or headsets that impair their sense of hearing while driving, the resolution said. moremoremore
