Fourteen persons were caught allegedly engaging in illegal fishing  at Taņon Strait in Barangay Lemery, Calatrava town in Negros Occidental, at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Apprehended were boat owner Alexander Pangganan, boat captain Lino Loquinario, and motorman Benjamin Lahera, the Philippine Coast Guard Negros Occidental reported yesterday.

Crewmembers Ivor Arogante, Michel Magbanua, Rian Maybanting, Benjie Lamera, Jopito Florencondia, Jun Abelias, Limar Flores, Jolly Piguit, Johmlou Calago, Rodney Flores, and Peter Sinciares, were also intercepted, the report added.

Authorities towed the fishing boat to the Calatrava Wharf in Barangay Suba, and those apprehended were turned over to Ric Infante of the Municipal Agriculturist Office for the filing of charges against them in violation of Republic Act 10654, or an act to prevent, deter, and eliminate illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, the report added.*
