RPA-ABB combatants

The government is set to decommission former combatants of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB), a breakaway faction of the New People’s Army in Western Visayas, and their firearms, this week, an Army regional spokesman said.

Capt. Cenon Pancito III, spokesman of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, yesterday said that the return to the folds of the law of the RPA-ABB in Western Visayas is the product of a localized peace talks, that also indicates that, contrary to claims, it is working.

At least 200 RPA-ABB combatants, who surrendered more than 200 firearms as well as explosives, to the government, were consolidated yesterday at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, in preparation for a decommissioning ceremony, Pancito said. moremoremore

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said they keep reminding barangay officials not to wait for thedeadline given them to remove all illegal structures on public roads in their barangays.

Between now and the deadline is just a matter of about 20 days, so they are reminding the barangays officials to finish the removal of all illegal structures, he said.

The Department of Interior and Local Government has given heads of local governments 60 days to reclaim all public roads being used for private ends. moremoremore

Sugar output slightly down: SRA

The production of sugar in the country has declined slightly by 0.54 percent in August this year, the Sugar Regulatory Administration said.

From September 1, 2018 to August 25, 2019, the production of raw sugar reached 2.072 million metric tons while in the previous year, it was 2.083 million MT. This is equivalent to 41.448 million 50-kilo bags compared to 41.672 million a year earlier, the SRA reported.

The report also said the demand for raw sugar fell by 17.56 percent, from 2.392 million MT in the previous year to 1.972 million MT.
