Taekwondo jin Rodriguez wins gold
to lead NTU-Tigers in Batang Pinoy

Leigh Andee Rodriguez won the gold medal in the junior finweight category to banner the successful campaign of the NTU-Tigers in the Batang Pinoy National Finals in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Rodriguez, a bronze medalist in the 3rd Asian Cadet Championships held in Amman, Jordan, was up against some of the national team members.

She held her ground and was in her finest from in the finals as she delivered a gold medal for Team Bacolod in the national competition.

“Leigh had to go through the eye of the needle. She was fighting against some national players, yet, managed to get the gold medal in her event,” taekwondo Coach Crystal Pauline Reyes Sabido, who mentros the NTU-Tigers along with husband Jean Pierre, said.

Adding glitter to the NTU-Tigers Batang Pinoy experience were the six medals won by Jamie Hannah Agaloos, Ma. Charlize Subardiaga, Lexine Lapu-os, Arthur Diaz, Miguel Zapata and Marielle Beronio.

Agaloos, Subardiaga, Lapu-os and Diaz won a couple of silver and a pair of bronze medals in the poomsae event while Zapata and Beronio were silver medalists in the cadet finweight and featherweight sparring.

“We are really thankful for Bacolod City for the support and opportunity that was given to the team,” the Sabido couple said.*
