The aunt, who had killed her 5-year-old niece in Pontevedra town, was charged yesterday for murder with rape in relation to RA 7610, known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, before the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, town police chief Capt. Rhojn Darell Nigos said.
The 23-year-old suspect, whose identity is being withheld, was arrested Wednesday night in Brgy. Miranda, Pontevedra, following the discovery of the lifeless body of her niece in a creek.
Nigos also considered the case closed and solved, following arrest and confession of the suspect of the crime, and the filing of charges against her in court.
Police investigation showed that the minor, whose identity is also being withheld, was strangled and drowned in a creek by the suspect, who, ironically, was her aunt.
Nigos said the suspect inserted her finger into the private organ of the child, to make it appear that she was a victim of molestation, in order to mislead authorities.
The suspect, in an interview with DYHB Tatak RMN, apologized to her sister and their mother, for what she had done to her niece.
She said that she was remorseful for what she had done.
Police investigation showed that the suspect was frequently being scolded by her elder sister, and even the mistakes of her niece were blamed on her.*
