San Carlos City in Negros Occidental was again recognized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nation for its sustainable tourism efforts.
Rebecca Villanueva-Labit, director of the Department of Tourism-Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation, in a letter dated November 20 to Mayor Rene Gustilo, said San Carlos has garnered the number of points to be one of the three winners in the Philippines to receive the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award 2020-2022.
Labit said the award is given to cities that have endeavored to beautify their public areas, improved the environment and sanitation, enhanced urban spaces, and promoted their man-made and natural attractions.
She added the awarding ceremony will be on January 16, 2020 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
The DOT official also lauded the local officials and the people for their contributions in making the city a clean, more exciting, and fun destination.
City Tourism Officer Jennifer Saballa said yesterday this is the second time for San Carlos to win the award from ASEAN. The first was in 2017.
The other cities from the country that were also recognized were Iloilo and Baguio, she added.
She said the city government is aiming to adopt more innovations in terms of sustainable tourism efforts. She added that the city has been at par with its counterparts for its environmental practices and initiatives.*
