Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya said yesterday that the Bacolod Evacuation and Disaster Center in Brgy. Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, that he has committed to the people, is about 95 percent complete,
Gasataya said the facility is constructed on a property provided by the city and once completed, it will be turned over to the local government unit.
Bacolod City is one of the three LGUs in Negros allocated a budget by the national government for the construction of an evacuation center.
This is the first evacuation center to be constructed in Bacolod. There is another being worked out, Gasataya said.
There are several sites being considered for the second facility and they are just awaiting the final decision because the national government has requested that it should be constructed on a 2,000 square meter property, he said.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has allocated a budget of P36 million for the present evacuation center which sits on a 3,000 square meter property provided by the City Government of Bacolod.*
