A woman from Valencia in Negros Oriental received P100,000 from the government for having reached the age of 100 this year.
Governor Roel Degamo on Thursday handed over the check, coursed through the Provincial Social Welfare Office, to Felina Gregorio, a resident of Barangay Bong-ao, Valencia, during the “Dagyawan: Talakayan sa Mamamayan” at the town gymnasium.
Gregorio, who celebrated her 100th birthday on June 1, still has a sharp memory and told people around her during the awarding ceremony that her secret for living a long life includes prayers, a vegetarian diet of “malunggay” and “kangkong”, with less meat but more fish, and staying happy.
The P100,000 is a cash incentive given by the government to Filipinos who reach the age of 100.
Jennifer Catan Tilos, Infocen manager of the Philippine Information Agency and head of the Strategic Communication Cluster of the Negros Oriental Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NOTF-ELCAC), said the ceremony added color to the Dagyawan.
The Dagyawan is part of a two-day activity of the NOTF-ELCAC in Valencia, the sixth and final leg in Negros Oriental before consolidated priority projects are presented to President Rodrigo Duterte, she said.*PNA
