ban on pork imports PVO
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said yesterday that business establishments and merchandisers have assured him of their support in the implementation of the permanent ban on pork imports from Luzon and other African swine fever-affected areas.

The Provincial ASF Task Force, co-chaired by Decena, earlier warned establishments in the province, including Bacolod City, to pull out pork products from Luzon that are displayed in their grocery shelves.

But he was assured that they will support the implementation of the ordinance that was passed this week to keep the province safe from the dreaded virus, he said.

Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino highlighted the best practices of Negros Occidental in farm mechanization during the recent Farm Mechanization Summit in Pampanga.

Masculino, who was among the resource speakers in the three-day conference, said the provincial government has been pushing mechanization for local farmers.

“We have a model farm in Barangay Taloc in Bago City where we apply mechanization, including extension works and technology,” he said.
