Cops open vehicle used
in broadcaster’s ambush

The Dumaguete City Police recovered the fake plate numbers of the Strada pickup that was involved in the ambush-slay of broadcaster Dindo Generoso in the city on Nov. 7.

By virtue of the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court executive judge Gerardo Paguio Jr., the pickup that was parked in the compound of the police station was opened by a locksmith Wednesday, with Scene of the Crime operatives, investigator-on-case Police Senior Master Sergeant Julito Deloria, Jess Cañete of the provincial Commission on Human Rights, the Highway Patrol Group headed by Capt. Saturnino Sedigo, the police crime lab, and the media as witnesses.

Deloria said the items recovered from the vehicle will form part of the evidences for the prosecution and were submitted to the city prosecutor yesterday.

Recovered were two plates marked as FAX 5801, the same plate numbers used by the Strada vehicle when Generoso was gunned down, as seen in the footage of a closed-circuit television camera.

Also recovered were the official receipt and certificate of registration of the vehicle issued in the name of Tomasino Aledro, the alleged owner, personal belongings, the phone number of a female, number combinations for a numbers game, and a pair of conduction stickers marked B5 0500.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Purok 4 West Balabag in nearby Valencia town three days after the crime with the original plate number, GAM 1959, attached. It was towed to the Dumaguete police headquarters and a search warrant to open it was applied for.*
