Senator Cynthia Villar and Agriculture Secretary William Dar are expected to headline the 14th edition of the Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival that will kick off Wednesday at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Bacolod City.
Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, Remelyn Recoter, Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas director, and Jennifer Chang, executive director of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements-Asia, are also expected to join Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer in the opening rites of the four-day festival.
The event, with the theme “Organic is love, integrity, fairness, and ecology”, is expected to gather industry stakeholders including farmers, producers, and exhibitors while lectures and sessions on various organic agriculture topics are also slated.
The organic festival will also feature exhibitions of organic products and by-products, as well as sustainable innovations and technologies.
The provincial government had been pushing the Negrense farmers to shift to organic farming.*
